Thermo Regulator Pigments

Confort dream is now reality

The Thermo Regulator Pigments (TRP) are a nano-capsule or shell made of an inert, very stable polymer that contains in its interior a Phase Changing Material (PCM) that is usually a paraffin-wax or a fatty acid ester, which absorbs and releases heat in order to maintain a particular temperature. For example, if the TRP were used in a ski jacket, it would initially absorb the skier’s body heat (the core material in its interior will melts inside the capsule shell) and store it until the body temperature drops from the outside environment; at which time, the heat is released (re-solidifying the core material within the capsule shell) giving warmth to the skier and keeping the temperature regulated for his/her comfort. Throughout this process the capsule shell holds the core material, so regardless of whether it’s in the liquid or solid state, the capsule itself remains as a solid particle.

APPLICATIONS:

TextilesTRP’s are often incorporated into apparel, footwear, furniture coverings, mattresses, outer wear, military uniforms, occupational clothing, infant seats, etc., for temperature regulation.
Building MaterialsBuilding applications include wall board, paint, insulation, thromb walls, tiles, flooring, roofing, etc.
PackagingTRPs are a unique alternative to expensive refrigerated transport or messy dry ice.  TRPs can be incorporated into shipping containers for biomedical samples, pharmaceuticals, perishables, food, lab samples, etc.
ElectronicsTRPs can be used, for example, in lasers to increase duty cycles, lap tops to increase battery life, and circuitry to impede overheating.
EnvironmentalTRPs can be used in conjunction with solar heating and radiant heat flooring as a latent heat storage device.

Thermo-Regulator Pigments: How They Work

1

The Thermo Regulator Pigment (TRP) consists of an encapsulated Phase Changing Material (PCM) with a high heat of fusion.  The Phase Changing Material (PCM) absorbs and releases thermal energy in order to maintain a regulated temperature within a product such as textiles, building materials, packaging, or electronics.  The capsule wall or shell provides a microscopic container for the PCM.  Even when the core is in the liquid state, the capsules still act as a solid – keeping the PCM from “melting away.”
